Special Message

December 29, 2013

Hey Everyone!

2014 is quickly approaching, and I am super excited! The New Year always invites an opportunity for a new beginning, but it also brings about a time of reflection on the previous year. This weekend I spent some time reflecting on 2013 and all of the amazing things that it has brought into my life. I could literally cry from how much of a change I had in 2013 as opposed to 2012. Don’t get me wrong, 2012 was a pretty good year as well, but I feel as though I had more challenges than EVER in 2012. I decided as I went into 2013 that I would welcome challenges instead of fearing them, pray and trust God when they come, and take leaps of faith as often as possible. In taking this approach on life, I was able to grow both physically (career-wise) and spiritually.

When going into 2013 I did not plan on launching this style blog. I honestly had given up on the idea after I tried it in 2012 and it flopped. Throughout the year I kept getting a feeling that I should start one, and I began having random dreams about me having a blog. I told two or three friends about these occurrences as well as my parents. They all said the same thing. “You should do it!” I quickly responded “But what if I fail?!”, “What if now isn’t the right time to do it?!”, “What if people don’t like it?!”. There seemed to be a common thread in all of the answers, “SO WHAT!!”. I quickly realized that there isn’t a “perfect condition” or “timing” for starting a blog (or anything new in life). You just have to do it!! If it doesn’t work, who cares?! Its better to silence that nagging voice of doubt in the back of your mind than to listen to it and limit yourself from all of the possibilities in life!

I took a leap of faith and started ChrissyJoyStyle.com and here I am today… happy & grateful. This is all thanks to God and Y-O-U!! I want to thank you all for your continued support in following the blog, and your help in spreading the word.

To my Family: Thank you for not ignoring the dreamer in me, and supporting my life choices even when some of them did not make sense at that present time. You have continued to instill great values and wisdom in my life throughout this year in which I am forever grateful.

To my Friends:ย Thank You for uplifting me and being such great support systems throughout this year. Your words of encouragement, generosity, and craziness have been all that I need, and more in my life!

To my Followers:ย Thank you for following me on my Life & Style journey. Your comments and/or likes do not go unnoticed. I am very thankful for your support! ๐Ÿ™‚

I challenge you all to go into 2014 and take it stylishly by storm! Silence that nagging voice of doubt and start that new business that you have been thinking about. Make that big decision that you have been feeling in your gut that you should make but have been too afraid. Take that trip you have been wanting to go on for the longest, etc. Make 2014 your year to take a leap of faith! If an obstacle comes, pray and trust that God will turn things around and put them in your favor (TRUST ME, he will do it!)

Cheers to taking this Life & Style journey into 2014 and making it the best year ever, together!! ๐Ÿ™‚

The Weekend Rundown: Christmas 2013 Edition

December 23, 2013

Happy Monday everyone! The weekend is over and its time to get this Christmas week underway. I hope that you all had a great weekend full of holiday cheer and fab stylish moments!

Before the weekend started, I left New York and traveled back to my hometown of Creedmoor, N.C for the Christmas holiday. I have been so excited about coming home to spend time with loved ones and old friends. I’m such a family person, so any opportunity that Iย get toย travel back to see them, I take full advantage (which is usually every quarter).ย Thus far, I have been able to attend a few different Christmas parties, speak at a “Girl Talk” forum, and celebrate the birthday of my favorite man! My weekend has truly been filled with happy, heartwarming & fun moments that have given me more than enough Christmas cheer!

Let’s get right into the rundown, and take a gander at my weekend festivities!

FRIDAY: On Friday night, I had the privilege of attending a Christmas Party with my parents. A dear family friend hosted aย party fullย of food, karaoke, catching up with old friends and my parents dancing like their lives depended on it (no exaggeration).

My outfit choice for the night included my favorite plaid pants (previously styled in “The Sequins series: Part 1”) / Slouchy black tee (H&M) / Faux Leather Jacket (Forever 21) / Chain Booties (Colin Stuart) / Long Gold Hoops- Chain Necklace (mom closet find).

Was able to catch up with an old and dear friend of mine, Amelia Hodges. I have known her and her amazing family since I was a baby!

The saying “She get’s itย from her mama!!” is evident in this picture. My mom and I were dancing queens during “The Wobble”. lol

The guestย at the Christmas Party. Such an amazing group of men and women that have known me since I was a baby and have been great friends to me and my family. (p.s. Sorry for the blurriness)

SATURDAY: Saturday night I attended my Godsister, and good friend, Christina Moss’s annual themed Christmas party called “Tina’s Turn Up”. This Christmas get together had a “Christmas Cheer” outfit theme that included Tacky Christmas Sweaters, Christmas colors, Christmas socks or basically any outfit that wouldย put youย or others in the Christmas spirit! All of the guest created a style statement with this theme and made it their own!ย ย

The host for the night, Christina Moss. Christina went for an all-plaid look that included mixing plaid prints. Sheย brokeย up the patterns by adding a belt & finishing off her look with a pair of light brown wedges. Super cute!

P1010013

This party guest added some Christmas cheer to my life with her festive Santa skirt, green tights and cute little Santa broaches, Love it!

P1010020

The guys were humorous with their “Christmas Cheer” interpretations. Theyย styling their Christmas colored sweaters with festive holiday boxers that included quotes from “A Christmas Story” as well as pictures of “Ralphie” and the infamous Red Ryder BB Gun. “A Christmas Story” is my favorite classic Christmas movie, so I was definitely put into a fun holiday mood with these looks!

A Tutuย as well asย Santa hats filled the room and sent Christmas joy to all throughout! ๐Ÿ™‚

P1010024

Although some decided to go more festive with their looks, Shelly decided to take a more subtle approach by choosing Christmas colors. She chose to rock a white dress, red mary-jane style pumps, statement necklace and aย Santa hat to complete her look. Cute!

P1010031

My look for the night was a Christmas onesie! From the momentย Iย was toldย the theme for this party I have been on a mission to find the the perfect Christmas onesie to wear! I settled on creating my own look. I found the onesie at Walmart and cut off the built-in footie. I then purchased a yard of faux white fur trimming at a fabric store, and my mom sewed it onto the collar. Lastly, I took my mom’s silk bedtime hair wrap, tied it into a bow and pinned it to the front! Lol I finished the look with a pair of patent pumps.

P1010016

It seems like my brother and I got the same PJ memo. He chose a “Christmas morning” get-up and wore a PJ set paired with a Santa hat. ๐Ÿ™‚

SUNDAY: My Sunday began with a return visit to “Girl Talk”. I have spoken at this forum for young womenย once beforeย and shared my story about the strugglesย that I faced and overcame when moving to NY and following my dreams (See “Girl Talk” post for full story). This time around I spoke to the girls about relationships (both business and personal). I talked aboutย ways to take full advantage ofย networking, internships while in college and high school to build business relationships. I also spoke on making sure that they choose theirย personal relationships wisely and to know their worth.

If you live in triad area of N.C and are between the ages 14-26, make sure to come check it out! Meetings are every 1st and 3rd Sunday at 9am at Christian Faith Center in Creedmoor, N.C!

I was also able to surprise my favorite man in the world, my father for his 55th birthday! He has been nothing but loving and supportive during my entire style journey and life. Love him! ๐Ÿ™‚

Rachel Zoe Pre-Fall 2014

December 19, 2013

The Rachel Zoe Pre-Fall 2014 Collection Lookbook has just been released and I am in love! The style maven says that the looks are inspired by “London’s 1960’s rock and roll scene”. The collection includes jumpsuits, short dresses with vintage inspired prints and modern tuxedos.

Rachel Zoe’s collections never disappoint me. I have always been a fan of her personal style, I love that when I see her designs I feel like I am looking at a ย model wearing looks that were pulled from Rachel’s closet. She designs pieces that are on trend and that she knows everyone will love, while still adding some of her own style and making her consumers feel like they are wearing pieces styled by the iconic celebrity stylist herself .

I can definitely see myself wearing/recreating outfits from this collection. Look 1, 4 and 9 have my name written ALL over them! Take a gander at the full collection below and see if there are any looks that catch your eye!

Weekend Rundown/ Stylist Business

December 9, 2013

Hey ya’ll!

It’s Monday again. I hope that you all had great weekends that were full of stylish outfits! My weekend started off stressful, but ended being one of my best weekends! Lets get into the rundown:

On Friday, I spent the entire day doing clothing pick-ups from designers, and prepping for an editorial shoot that I was scheduled to style on Saturday. Of all days for it to rain, it decided to pour down on that day that I had to lug garment bags, and accessories. To make the day even more stressful, I wasn’t completely happy with one of the looks that I pulled, and it seemed that everything that could go wrong for a ย wardrobe stylist the day before a shoot went wrong! I had a moment on Friday night that I became so frustrated that I called my mom and vented about my day, and uncertainties that I had about my upcoming shoot. Just like any other time my mom came to the rescue with her words of wisdom. She told me to stop everything that I was doing at that moment, go get my bible, find my favorite scripture that I knew would calm me down, and to rest in God and trust that he would work everything out for me and my upcoming shoot. At that very moment I hung up the phone, ran and got my bible and did just that. I instantly felt better! I decided at that moment that I was gonna give it all to God, and allow him to bring everything together.

Now, let me tell you about the miracle that happened on Saturday! When I say that my shoot went great… I mean it was AMAZEBALLS! Everything that I was worried about the night before all somehow worked out in random ways the day of! I spent 5 hours in 30 degree weather, and styled 5 looks for our editorial shoot in Central Park. (Behind the scenes pictures below). Big thanks to the Photographer: Meghan Garvan, MUA: Malika B, Hair:Katelyn McGinn, & Model from ADAM: Olga (who was absolutely amazing & braved it out in arctic weather that we worked in)

On Sunday, I spent the morning at my amazing church, The Rock Church Manhattan (43rd and 8th Avenue, Sundays at 11am). After church, I spent time with a few of friends from church for an afternoon of foolery and fun! ๐Ÿ™‚ We later went to our Rock Church location in Queens for the annual “Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony”. We sang Christmas carols, ย ate desserts and drank hot chocolate, and had LOTS of laughter and dancing! It was a great ending to a weekend that started off bad.

I’d like to think that God taught me a lesson this weekend, when I stop worrying about the situations that happen around me and just put my TOTAL trust in him, he can turn things around in my life instantly! ( & in a unbelievable way) ๐Ÿ™‚

Take a gander at my weekend in a nutshell:
