Fringed Love Vol. I

February 25, 2014

Hey Loves!

So… I have a confession/announcement to make. I have officially found a new obsession, FRINGE!! πŸ™‚ As you all may have noticed, I am constantly changing my obsessions. The reason for this frequency is because I am always inspired through street style, runway shows and magazine editorials. This latest obsession came about during Fashion Week. Fringe was a popular trend seen going down the runway; it was spotted in collections such as Altuzarra, 3.1 Phillip Lim & Derek Lam.Β To say that I was enamored with the fringed frenzy that sashayed down the catwalk would be an understatement!

Today’s look incorporated my current obsession for fringe through an outfit based around a printed scarf with leather fringe by Sheena Trivedi. You all may remember Sheena Trivedi from my recent NYFW post in which I did a review of her F/W14 presentation (here). Her designs are inspired by her Indian heritage with an added westernized and edgy twist. I recently stopped by her Times Square showroom to take a closer look at her latest collection (which I loved!) and stumbled upon this fringed scarf from one of her past collection. It was love at first sight!!

The first look is aΒ laid-back everyday outfit which included the scarf with a basic white t-shirt, cargo pants, cardigan and heels. But this look could easily transition into a fun evening look by taking off the sunglasses and basic tee, tying the cardigan in the front (making it a crop top), and adding a pop of color to the lips. I chose my color of choice, Red. πŸ™‚

NYFW Style Recap: Part 2

February 16, 2014

Hey loves!

I hope you all are having an amazing Sunday, and that you have been making style statements throughout the weekend. It’s about that time to wrap up my recap of my New York Fashion Week 2014 experience! In the last post, I gave you a summary of two of the days that I attended (day 2 & 3) ,but today will involve the remaining nitty gritty details of Fashion Week.

Lets get right into it!

NYFW Day 4

Day 4 was on a Sunday. I started my day at my church of course, The Rock Church- Manhattan (300 W. 43rd Street, Sundays at 11am). From there, I went to the Third. NYC F/W14 menswear presentation at Inglot Studios. I also attended the Designers Collective Fashion Show later that evening in Lower Manhattan. For my outfit of the day, I chose to have a casual layered look that was comfortable, yet chic since I would be going to different places throughout the day.

Third. NYC F/W14 Menswear CollectionΒ

The collection included leather jackets, sweatpants and layered shirts, some looks of which could be worn unisex. I would describe the clothing as relaxed minimalist with a unique edge. Even the few elevated outfits that I saw had a laid back style to them that gave off an “effortlessly handsome” look.

The Designers Collective Fashion Show F/W14

Eight collections of up-and-coming designers went down the runway at the “Designers Collective Fashion Show”. Both men and womenswear were featured in the show in an array of different styles. Unfortunately, I was not able to obtain the names of the designers lines, because I accidentally left my goodie bag with all of the designers information under my chair at the venue! πŸ™ Β I still wanted to showcase their looks because four of the eight designers collection’s really stood out to me and caught my eye. Take a look at a few of my favorite looks from the show.

This was a look that definitely caught my attention. I love the detailed top and colorblock jacket!

I let out a happy “eek!” as soon as I saw this come down the runway! This SOOOO has my name written all over it, LOVE! πŸ™‚

I also ran into Russell Simmons at the end of the show! He was nice enough to stop, speak and snap a picture with me. Right before we took the picture he said “I Β just turned down about 90 people for pictures…but you can consider yourself a star”. I’m pretty sure you can tell from my expression in the picture that I was super happy about that! lol πŸ™‚

Welp, that’s it for this season folks! Unfortunately, I was not able to fit everything that I did into both post, but I think you all pretty much got the idea! I’ll be back for more coverage again in September! πŸ™‚

NYFW Style Recap: Part 1

February 13, 2014

Hi loves!

Fashion week is finally starting to wind down as we come upon our last day of New York Fashion Week 2014! I’ve had a great week that included presentations, fashion shows, celebrity encounters, and new friendships gained. If you’ve been following me on Instagram (@Chrissy_Joy) and Twitter (@ChrissyJoyy), you’ve probably seen a few of my style moments as I was giving a daily style feed of my outfits from the days that I attended. BUT, I saved all of the nitty gritty details for todayyy! πŸ™‚

Lets get right into a few of the looks from Day 2 and 3!

NYFW Day 2Β

On Day 2 of Fashion Week, I spent the morning at Lincoln Center taking Street Style pictures of outfits that caught my eye (See previous post). I later spent the evening at the 5:31Β JΓ©rΓ΄me F/W14 Women’s Presentation at Inglot Studio.Β On that day I chose to wear an all black outfit complete with my genie pants and favorite Chanel-inspired chain booties. I also made a headpiece to complete my look. Now, let me explain the story behind this headpiece.Β It was made out of a shoulder pad that I took out of one of my thrifted vintage jackets; I then added black tulle that was saved from one of my past photo shoot. I’ve always wanted to have a headpiece with tulle slightly over my face that I could wear with an up-do, but I couldn’t find a piece that I completely loved.Β So I thought, “why not just make one myself”. After a little cutting here and pinning there, Viola! My headpiece was created! πŸ™‚

The room was filled with models in burgundy, grey, black and white colorways. There were A-line midi dresses with cut-out designs, crop tops paired with tailored trousers and a TO-DIE-FOR embellished overcoat that had my name written all over it! πŸ™‚

Each model was accessorized with either gold spiraled necklaces, bracelets or rings that connected to a bracelet.

Jerome Shoes

Shoes had a “melted gold” theme to them, so both boots and heels gave a textured pop to each of the outfits!

This was my favorite look of the collection! From the jacket (that I LOVE) to the bracelet and shoes, I need it ALL! πŸ™‚

I also ran into my favorite celebrity stylist, June Ambrose at the presentation, she is such a fun and sweet woman. We were literally dancing right before this picture and then she landed right into this fierce smize right when it was time to snap the pic. Yesss!!!

NYFW Day 3Β

On Day 3 of Fashion Week, I once again spent the morning snapping Street Style pictures of editors, bloggers and icons that I love!Β I later attended the Sheena Trivedi F/W14 Men and Womenswear Presentation at the Empire Hotel Rooftop.Β On this day I wore my thrifted vintage jacket as the base to build my outfit.Β I layered a button up shirt and tank top, and added my destroyed boyfriend jeans. Of course I added my current obsession shoes, black classic pointed toe-pumps.

Male and Female models stood atop lit blocks to showcase designs that included high-waisted embellished pants, graphic tops and jackets with beaded and mirrored designs. Black was the main colorway seen throughout the collection, with some camel, red, and blue.

Headpiece Detail

Many of the female models wore elaborate facial accessories with paint designs on their face. It complimented the outfits and added a unique edge to each of the looks.

Pant Detail

I can always appreciate an outfit with great detailing. That’s why I love that this collection had lots of gorgeous detailing and patterns in a variety of styles.

New York Fashion Week 2014- Street Style Edition

February 10, 2014

Hey loves!

New York Fashion Week is in full swing here in the Big Apple, and I am completely fired up about it! It’s something about the energy of being in Upper West Side during Fashion week, and seeing celebrities, fashion editors and other fellow fashion bloggers making their style statements outside of the infamous Lincoln Center Tents that puts a huge smile on my face! The city literally turns into a endless catwalk on every corner with sights such as sky high metallic stilettos, sheer pants, unique jewelry hand-pieces and a bundle of fur thrown over just about everyone’sΒ shoulders.Β

Although I have attended a few presentation and shows so far that I have enjoyed (reviews will be in a forthcoming post), my favorite part of the entire Fashion Week experience is the Street Style!

I love to take pictures and be inspired by looks that catch my attention… so this past weekend I took full advantage during my free time to snap a few shots of a few people who’s style and outfit detailing caught my eye!

Take a gander at the looks below and let me know what stylish outfits stood out to you!

SuperBowl & The Summer Day

February 3, 2014

Happy Monday! I hope you all had a great weekend full of fab style moments.Β I can’t believe that its been 2 weeks since I last posted in my blog! IΒ was under the weather for a few days, so I was not able to shoot or do much other than walk around with a box of tissue near me at all times. But IΒ am back and 100% better! πŸ™‚

This weekend has been great for me, especially this past Sunday! The weather yesterday was amazingg!!!Β After weeks of polar vortex’s, snow and slippery ice, New Yorkers were finally given a day of grace. The temperature high was 50 degrees! (pull out the tank tops, sunscreen and short-shorts!).Β It’s so sad that we’ve gotten to the point that 50 degrees is considered summertime around here. But I have to say, having one day in which I didn’t have to put on 3 layers before I walked out the door was ABSOLUTE BLISS!

Sunday was also “SuperBowl Sunday” in which the Seattle Seahawks played against the Denver Broncos. I am personally not a fan of either (proud Carolina Panthers fan!),Β but I was planning on attending a Super Bowl party that evening, and I wanted to participate by dressing in colors for one of the teams and rooting for them during the game. But when it came time for me to pick a team to root/dress up for, I couldn’t choose! I asked a few football enthusiast what team I should cheer for, but the result came back split down the middle.

So… I just decided to wear a navy outfit to support both! lol (Since they both have navy/blue incorporated into their team color).

My outfit choice for the beginning of the day reflected my Sunday church attire. I chose a navy outfit with a few black hints. I went for a black long sleeved top, tailored navy trousers, a short-sleeve oversized navy jacket and black patent pumps. I was so excited about the weather that I added my color-block “797” Tory Burch bag into the mix for a little color to brighten up the unusually warm day.Β I wanted to make sure that my outfit was able to transition easily into my evening plans. I later changed my pants to dark blue denim and added tan/grey wedge shoes.

The Super Bowl party that I attended was hosted by the beautiful and super sweet, Maham and her boyfriend Edwin. They were amazing host that provided a 3-course appetizer style meal for everyone during the game. FromΒ empanadas and bruschetta to cheesburger sliders and wings, and even fondue! It was a great night filled with dancing, laughing and the usual football trash talking of course.
