Lace Adventures

April 24, 2014

Hey Loves!

Happy Thursday! I hope that you all are having an amazing week so far and that this upcoming weekend brings you many fab style moments! πŸ™‚

This week is the conclusion of my Greensboro shoot that I did while back in my home state of North Carolina a couple of weeks ago. Of course, this week included another adventure just as every other blog shoot that I have done, and even a few moments of living life on the edge.Β While shooting this look, my good friend/amazing photographer, Najah Cobb and I went to multiple sites in downtown Greensboro to explore and to play around with the scenery. From a staircase at a downtown restaurant/brewery calledΒ “Natty Greene’s”, to a random back alley and even a beautiful waterfall tucked away in a park. It was so much fun to walk around and take in the beauty of the city. Β I even got a little dirty while taking a mini hike through grass and dirt inclines in the park to uncover the waterfall (it was hidden under a bridge).Β Overall it was a fun day of style and new discoveries which made it an awesome time πŸ™‚

My look for the day was a fun, feminine yet casual look.Β I paired a printed bomber jacket with lace shorts and a sheer green button up,Β the look was finished off with a black pointed toe pumps and mirrored sunglasses.

This look was shot at “Natty Greene’s”, a restaurant/brewery in downtown Greensboro. We were on the staircase on the outside eating area of the restaurant. So yeah, we were just shooting above people while they were eating and taking in the sights (with the permission of management, of course!) lolΒ

Boho Love

April 15, 2014

Hi Loves!

Spring has finally hit New York!! *does hardcore Harlem shake with a light brushing off of the shoulder*. The flowersΒ are beginningΒ to bloom, temperatures are slowly rising day-by-day and people are hitting the streets and neighborhood parks in their light jackets to take part in enjoying this amazing weather. THESE are the days that I have been longed for since winter first started! πŸ™‚

Today’s look was inspired by the spring weather and sights when visiting my home state of North Carolina last week. While there I was so excited to be in warm weather that I decided to go for a “Bohemian Chic” look for the day. I wanted to celebrate the beautiful flowers that were beginning to bloom as well as the fact that I could actually wear a dress with open-toed heels without having frost bite on every inch of my exposed skin.

This look was photographed by Najah Cobb in Greensboro, North Carolina. On that day that we decided to shoot various looks and take a little adventure of exploring the city of Greensboro. We settled on shooting this look at a beautiful park on a nice Friday afternoon. Little did we know that we chose “Prom Friday” in which every high school student floods the local parks in their bedazzled gowns, rented tuxedos and metallic strappy heels. This isΒ with the intent of handing off corsages and getting the perfect coupled and group pictures taken in order to help your overly eager parents get photo documentation of your monumental day (ya’ll remember the routine!). Luckily with a little bit of patience we were able to get the shots that we wanted along with a few laughs and fun sights over the whole ordeal. πŸ™‚

Lets get right into it!

Denim Days

April 9, 2014

Hey loves!

It has been an amazing week for me, I hope it has been the same for ya’ll! I have been in North Carolina for the past week and a half spending time with friends and family. I am originally from Creedmoor, North Carolina (a tiny little town near the Raleigh/Durham area) and am very family oriented, so I like to go visit them multiple times during the year. Besides the weather being amazing, it was so fun to catch up with friends and have a few adventures. From an intense game of group indoor laser tag (I am BEAST with an electronic AK-47 when it comes to that game), to late nights on the town and barefoot walks in the city park. Overall it was an awesome vacation of relaxing, fun times and memories made! Head over to my Instagram or Facebook to see the pictures and be sure to follow!

While there, I was able to find a few great spots to shoot in Greensboro, North Carolina. A good friend of mine and great photographer, Najah Cobb, is from the area and took me to her hidden gem and known shooting places within the city for a full day of exploring and style photography! πŸ™‚

Today’s look includes my favorite acid-wash peplum top that I found in a random little boutique within my neighborhood of Brooklyn, NY. I paired it with my super comfy cropped Tory Burch denim (I highly recommend their denim to everyone, they are very light, comfortable and work well with women that have little to moderate curves) and finished the look with one my favorite pair of strappy sandals and mirrored sunglasses from Aldo.

Let’s take a gander!

Spring 2014 Style Favorites & Must Haves

April 1, 2014

Hey loves!

It’s so great to be back! I took an unplanned one week hiatus from blogging last week due to my work schedule, photo shoot prepping and trying to pack for my vacation back home to North Carolina. Which is where I am now! The weather in New York was not inspiring me AT ALL to write about spring styles, colors and trends. Between the random late night snow flurries, and morning tornado-speed cold wind that I had to walk to work in, I think that it’s safe to say that Mother Nature in New York did not get the memo that we changed seasons a week ago. Today, I am at home in Creedmoor, North Carolina sitting on the deck of my house on this sunny day, and looking at my back yard filled with trees, land and also my neighbors vegetable field that is off to the corner. Now THIS is the type of scenery that I need to get my spring style juices flowing! πŸ™‚

Now, that we are officially into Spring (which is my FAVORITE time of the year!), I wanted to share a few of the styles that I am most excited about wearing this season! During spring, I find that I am a lot more relaxed with my everyday outfits. I get so excited about getting out of the house to experience the beautiful weather that I usually throw on either a fun sundress, or relaxed t-shirt with pants, and jazz up the outfit with my accessories and/or shoes. This year will probably be no different, but there are a few trends that have caught my eye and I am planning to incorporate into my looks and take for a spin this season.

Let’s get right into it to see what they are!

Metallic Shoes

I am a huge lover of all things gold. From jewelry, to handbags and all the things in between, gold has always been my first love, but this new metallic trend has turned my attention to silver. Although metallic in general is big right now, the shoes in this trend are what made my heart skip a beat. Some of the great metallic shoes that are available this spring are flats, sneakers, sandals and heels. They are a great way to add a fun pop to a mute and/or patterned outfit.

Crop TopsΒ

Crop Top

Crop Tops (when worn properly) are a year-long style favorite of mine. In the winter I like to wear them in a sweat shirt form, as seen here in my past style diary post. But spring brings about a variety of colors, patterns and fabrics for crop tops. A few of my favorites are lace (in white and pastel colors), jean (acid wash as well), striped, and of course sequins (my favorite!). These are great when paired with maxi & skater skirts, under overalls, and even on top of certain solid-colored dresses (lace crop top).

I can always appreciate a great clean, crisp look and that is what I feel an all-white outfit gives.Β  I can honestly say that I have never tried wearing an all-white outfit simply because I can be very clumsy at times; the thought of walking out of the house with an all-white outfit on kind of scares me. But the bite sized fear that I have doesn’t come from the thought of me walking out of the house in the outfit, it comes from what I will look like once I get back home. I can already imagine the stains on my butt from sitting in the wrong spot on the subway or the possible dirt stain on my knees from falling while going up the steps of the subway station or walking down the street (which has happened to me more times than I am embarrassed to admit). But I am going to put all of my fears aside and step out of my comfort zone to try this style for spring. I’ll make sure to document this monumental moment for you all to see! πŸ™‚

Destroyed DenimΒ

Destroyed Denim

Lately I have been getting a lot of wear out of a pair of destroyed denim boyfriend jeans that I have had for years now and that I absolutely adore (even though they are 2 sizes too big for me now, they still work!). The reason for my frequent wearing of these jeans is because of the comfort and various ways that I can style them. I plan to invest more in destroyed denim for the spring season. They are a great go to pair of denim that can be dressed up or down while still giving you more comfort than a standard pair of skinny jeans due to the holes and distressed fabric.

Spring JacketsΒ

Spring Jackets

Spring Jackets are one of the staple items that I love, and that I feel every woman should have in their closet, such as pastel colored blazers, jean jacket, colored moto jackets and cotton trench coats. I think that having at least one of these items in your closet is great because they all have something to offer to your spring wardrobe. Pastel colored blazers are great for days when you want to wear jeans and a t-shirt. Throw on your blazer with a great statement necklace, cute flats or heels, and you have instantly elevated your look. A jean jacket is great to have when wearing a fun sundress on a breezy spring day when you may need a light jacket to throw on. A colored moto jacket can serve the same purpose as the pastel blazer, but it is great for when you want to add a bit of an edge to your outfit. A cotton trench coat is best when paired with your spring attire on rainy days, and also when worn as a trench coat dress. It is a great simple and chic look!

Finish off your look with a great pair of spring sunglasses that will compliment your face structure to perfection! Aviators and Cat EyesΒ are my favorite spring style to rock. Mirrored Aviators are great when paired with floral and pastel colors, whileΒ Tortoise Cat Eye sunglassesΒ are great with any solid-colored outfit.

These all are a few of my favorite styles that I plan to wear this spring. They are of course open to modifications to suit your personal style if you would like to try them out as well! Do you plan on trying out any of these styles or have any spring styles that you are excited about? If so, let me know what way you plan on styling your look and/or the style you are most excited about for spring in the comment section! I’m curious to hear your style faves as well! πŸ™‚
