Do you remember that kid in elementary school that always seem to make a mess on themselves? You know the one- she came to school looking neat and pressed, but by the end of the day her ponytail was lopsided and she probably had a jello stain from lunch on her shirt….yeahhhh..well, that was me.
I was the girl that would drop her ice cream scoop on her shirt before even having a chance to have the first lick of the cone… the girl that during summer camp had the awesome odds of picking the ONE soda- amid millions of others- that had been shaken one too many times and having it explode all over her in front of everyone (->insert angry face emoji here <-).
Thanks to my butter fingers and a seemingly constant string of bad luck, I stuck to wearing dark colors while growing up because they mask stains better. Every now and then, I took a walk on the wild side and wore a white or pink top, but for a majority of the time, I stuck to wearing all black or pieces with mostly dark colors. Anything too colorful or that would be extra noticeable if stained were totally out of the question.
After moving to New York, I became more willing to take new fashion risks and opened myself up to stepping out of my comfort zone. Now, don’t get me wrong, I still love a great all-black outfit! But, now I find myself fearlessly wearing head-to-toe color without a second guess about whether I will somehow make a mistake and get a stain all over it. And since I started, my outfit stain rate has gone down tremendously! I think that when you make the decision to step out of your comfort zone and try something new (whether a new outfit or life in general), you will have an outcome that helps your life in a positive way – regardless of your past track record.
For today’s look, I chose to conquer my one last outfit fear – all white! I have never been able to muster enough courage to wear all-white without thinking that I would spill something on it before walking out the door or sit in something on the subway that would stain and ruin my whole look. Now, I’m not gonna lie, I was a little uneasy at the beginning of the day, but by mid-day, I broke into a dance and was walking around fearlessly without a care in the world!
Let’s take a look at this monumental moment because this revolution will not be televised! 😉
I teamed up with my good friend and awesome photographer/artist , Milli for this shoot. She was the photographer. Make sure to go check out her full website at 2minxinx.com! 🙂
Make sure to also stay tuned in for my next post to see how I remixed this look!
