24 Candles

July 15, 2014

Hey Lovies!

On Sunday, July 13, 2014 at 10:48 pm, I officially became 24 years old! 🙂 I am so grateful to God for another year of life with good health, amazing family & friends, and the ability to continue pursuing my dreams in this amazing city (NYC). In celebration of this occasion, I had a weekend of activities with a few of my close friends. From a Coney Island adventure, to a rooftop brunch and ending with my Birthday Dinner. It was such a relaxing and fun weekend I definitely had to share it with you all! Every year, I go out and buy different outfits to celebrate my Birthday weekend, but this year I decided to shop from my closet. It saved me so much money and hassle and it also helped me with my budgeting since I am trying to have better money management to save for a new apartment. Shopping can be fun, but it feels so much better when you can play around and re-mix looks from your closet. You will thank yourself later once you receive that which you have been diligently budgeting for. On that note, let’s get straight into it! 🙂

NOTE: Although, I wish I had a personal photographer that walked around with me and captured my most memorable moments on camera… I do not… yet! Speaking it into existence lol. The majority of the photos were captured on a Iphone (with the exception of a few), so please excuse the clarity of select images.

Friday: Day at Coney Island

I’ve wanted to return to Coney Island since I visited my first year here in New York. It’s such a fun place, and I LOVE roller-coasters. The mere fact that it has rides instantly won my heart. My friends and I decided to take a day trip for a bit of relaxation and foolery! Between getting attacked by baby waves, and dancing to a mariachi band on the boardwalk, I would say the day was a success! 🙂 (P.S: Please disregard my beach hair. The possibility of my mane looking even remotely cute becomes very slim once it gets wet.)

Saturday: Rooftop Brunch, Movies & Night Out

On Saturday, I spent the day with one of my besties, Alexandra Berrocal. We went to brunch at a rooftop restaurant called “Catch” in Meatpacking District (THE BEST BRUNCH!). Afterwards, we made our way to a midtown AMC Theatre to see “Dawn of the Planet of Apes”. Alexandra isn’t as big a fan of the Planet of the Apes movies as I, but she knew how excited I was to see it, so she allowed me to give her a synopsis of the first movie and went with me to see the sequel! (Good movie, but not as good as the 1st) 🙂 Unfortunately, I was not able to get as many pictures of Saturday’s  events other than my attire. It was a very relaxing day for me, and I wanted to really enjoy the moments rather than trying to get a good picture.

Later, that evening I met up with a few friends at “The DL” for a night out and to bring in my birthday at midnight!:)

Sunday (My actual Bday): Birthday Dinner

On Sunday, I spent the morning at The Rock Church- Manhattan followed by a afternoon spent on the couch watching “Save the Last Dance”. 🙂 Later that evening, I met up with friends for my Birthday Dinner at Qi-Bangkok in Times Square. I have eaten there many times and the food is always so good! For my attire I chose to wear my favorite BornMajestic dress and clutch. This is my 3rd time wearing the dress since I first bought it for my college graduation in 2012. I changed up the look in 2013 and wore it for a “Great Gatsby” themed party. I decided to revive the dress from my closet and change the look again for my Bday dinner! (they say 3rd times a charm!). It’s such a comfortable, versatile dress, and I am obsessed with the accordion bottom, so I am positive that you will see a 4th revival of this dress  in the near future! 🙂 Check out the online boutique at www.BornMajestic.com (or follow the above hyperlink). It has great going out, everyday chic attire and accessories for the fashionable woman! 🙂

Up Close & Personal

July 10, 2014

Hi Lovies!

liebster-award

Guess what?! I was nominated for an award!!….*insert me crying at an award show podium saying “They love me!! They really really love me!”* 🙂 Well…not that kind of award, it’s called the “Liebster Award”. I was nominated by love and relationship blogger, Sex & the Cincy. It is an award within the blogger community in which you are nominated by a blogger, must answer questions asked by that blogger in order to accept the award, then nominate 11 other bloggers and ask them questions. I thought it was a cute award and a way for you all to get to know me a little bit better, so I accepted! 🙂 Below are the questions that my nominator asked me followed by my answers. Time for you guys to get to know a little bit more of Chrissy Joy, up close and personal!

1. What inspired the creation of your blog? My blog was inspired by my endless style inspiration along with my desire to spread love and help others. Growing up I would always get compliments on my outfits, but when asked ” What inspired them” I realized that I always had a story or specific event, person, or thing behind most of my looks. About a year ago, I started to feel compelled by God to start a blog to share these things, so I took a leap of faith and did it! 🙂

2. Are you different in person than on your blog?  If anything, I may be a little bit more crazier in person than on my blog! I definitely have a track record of conducting random street dance sessions, making the middle of a packed NY subway train my personal runway, and walking up to random people in New York City to talk to them about Jesus. I guess you can say that I love to seize every opportunity that I have to really live life to the fullest, and be the change that I want to see in this world.

3. What is your guilty pleasure?  Musicals! I can spend hours belting out tunes from RENT, Hairspray and Grease. Let’s not even begin to talk about Disney tunes! Try to speak to me while “Reflections” (from Mulan) is playing….. you most definitely will get shut down by my high rifts and over-exaggerated runs (just saying!).

4. What are 5 words you believe people would use to describe you?  Adventurous, Loving, Fun, Hard-worker and Trustworthy.

5. What has been one of your worst dating experiences? Honestly, I don’t think that I have had any dating experiences that were absolutely horrid. They have all been learning experiences, and I am still cool with the majority (if not all) of those guys.

6. How do you choose what to talk about on your blog?  I mostly look through the pictures that I have taken for my style diary post and identify the inspiration behind each outfit. Sometimes I may not have any inspiration for a look, it may have been something that I literally just threw together at the last-minute. In that case, I say a quick prayer that I figure out something to write about, then just start typing the introduction to the post. Usually at the end of writing the introduction an idea pops in my head of what to write about, but sometimes it may not come to me until after a few hours. I just try to have patience and find things to get my creative juices flowing.

7. What is one of your favorite childhood memories? My family’s annual trip to Myrtle Beach, SC. Every summer my family would take a trip to Myrtle Beach with family friends or a group of our close friends from my church back home, Christian Faith Center. To me it was the event of the year that I ALWAYS looked forward to! I have some of my most fun and hilarious childhood stories from events that happened during those trips, they are always something that I will treasure.

8. What qualities must your potential partner possess in order to capture your attention? I feel like I’m on a dating show right now! Lol…. One of my favorite relationship quotes is “A woman’s heart should be so hidden in God that a man has to seek him just to find her”. The man who takes that journey and that God brings to me I’m sure will possess all of the qualities that I love AND need to have in my potential partner. Which is trustworthy, funny, ambitious and diligent.  A dash of style wouldn’t hurt either! 😉

9. What is a quote/saying that you live by? “The woman who follows the crowd will usually go no further than the crowd. The woman who walks alone is likely to find herself in places no one has every seen before”  -Albert Einstein <3

10. What is your favorite Disney movie? Ahhhhhh, that’s so hard!! It’s going to have to be a 3-way tie between Mulan, Monsters Inc., and Finding Nemo!

11. If you were served your last meal, what would it be? Rotisserie chicken, extra macaroni & cheese, collard greens and sweet potato casserole (the kind with marshmallows that’s served at Golden Corral!). What can I say, I’m a southern girl at heart! <3

Welp, that was fun! Now that you were able to get to know me on a more personal level, let’s get back to the style. Let’s take a gander at this week’s look! 🙂

Love at First Sight…

July 3, 2014

Hey Lovies!

Oh how I have missed talking to you all! Within the past 2 weeks my laptop was corrupted, and I had to get a new hard drive, so I went an entire week without a computer! No bueno, nada! As soon as I received it back from the computer shop I hit the ground running with catching up on work. It feels great to be back and we must never go this long without being with each other again! 🙂

In this week’s look I decided to bring back one of my favorite items in my closet…my jumpsuit. My love for jumpsuits and rompers is truly infinite (add to list with sequins and leopard). If my only option for clothing were jumpsuits, I would be A-Okay!…well at least for a couple of months, because I love my dresses too! I usually always have an inspiration behind the things that I wear, or at least something that triggers my passion for certain clothing. But honestly, I don’t have anything for this one. For me, jumpsuits were just a love at first sight! I love how when styled correctly it can instantly give you that “grown and sexy” look, and they’re sooo comfortable! Anything that passed the test of being chic AND comfortable instantly get a stamp of approval in my book…along with a smiley face! 🙂

For this week’s look I paired my blue jumpsuit with my white sequin-sleeved jacket. It was slightly toasty but windy that day, so I wore the jacket as an overcoat because I knew it would get cooler later in the evening. I completed the look with a classic pointed-toe pump, Chanel bag, rings and a watch.

Let take a closer gander! 🙂
