New York Fashion Week Style Diary: Part 2

September 22, 2015

Day 4

My mindset was still somewhat in “chill mode” but I wanted to make a statement with my accessories, so I built my outfit around my hat. I complimented the hat with a printed scarf and kept the rest of my look comfy by wearing a basic long sleeve shirt with black genie pants and a perforated faux leather jacket. Thinking back, I should have put a little more print into this to really set it off…but I woke up late and was in a hurry, so I was set on wearing my most comfortable clothing. In turn, the result was comfort topped with a feather! πŸ™‚

Day 6

Fashion Week put me in a “Print Party” state of mind! I was inspired by the Desigual SS16 show that I saw on Day 1 and wanted to mix prints. In order to do so I built my outfit around a white/black printed heart skirt that I thrifted. I wanted to wear my plaid button down with it but I felt like the outfit was missing something. So, I layered my Mickey Mouse cropped sweatshirt over the button down and wore it backwards so that it would look like a regular grey sweatshirt (didn’t wanna mix prints & characters with this look). I finished the look with my booties, statement necklace and fringe bag to add a little boho. What came of the look was…dare I say it…AMAZING! πŸ™‚ Can’t wait to try this look again and remix it!

New York Fashion Week Style Diary : Part 1

September 22, 2015

Hey lovies!

New York Fashion Week has come and gone, it was a great season for me.Β  Rather than running to every show I was invited to, I took it easy and went with the flow – attending only the ones I was most drawn to and relaxing during the down time. This β€œchill state of mind” also translated into my attire for the week!

I participated in four out of seven Fashion Week days, and each event brought something new to the table. I’ve split the four looks into two posts, so let’s get right into the first two looks! πŸ™‚

DAY 1

My mindset was “more is more” rather than “less is more.” Β I am usually the type of person to pair one statement clothing item with somewhat basic clothing, and jazz it up with statement accessories. But for Day One, I wanted to play around with statement pieces. I started my outfit with a sheer bathing suit tunic (cami under) with a lace white skirt over it. (I cut out the lining in the skirt). I tucked the tunic in under the skirt to replace the lining and to cover my goods, of course! lol Β I finished the look with my vintage statement blazer and added rugged booties to the mix. Β A lot going on, right?!Β  But I loved it! Β Fashion Week is my time to play around with looks I wouldn’t normally try. It’s the perfect gauge to see if it’s a hit (try it again for everyday) or a miss (keep that one as a memory). What are your thoughts? Hit or Miss?

P.S: Day 1 was a rainy/gloomy day, so I didn’t take professional pics. Excuse the quality of my iPhone!

DAY 3

My mindset was “Chill Mode.” Β I really wanted to wear something comfortable and loose because it was a Saturday, and I knew I would probably be out all day and through the evening.Β  I just didn’t want to be moving around the city in tight-fitting, uncomfortable clothing. Β I centered my outfit around this great houndstooth cape jacket that I thrifted recently. Β Adding a pair of destroyed boyfriend jeans and a long sleeveless white button-down to the mix, I finished the look with single-strap heels. I am so glad I chose this look because I felt so relaxed and carefree during the entire day. Β Amazing how your outfit can help set the tone for your day! πŸ™‚

Michael Costello SS16 Collection

September 21, 2015

From Grecian gowns with iced-out body chains, to show stopping jumpsuits with dramatic capes, if there is one thing Michael Costello knows how to do…it’s put on a show! Whether models are strutting down the runway or celebrities whisked across the red carpet you can usually spot someone wearing a Michael Costello design, because all eyes are on them.

I had the honor of attending Costello’s SS16 runway show during New York Fashion Week, and I still cannot stop raving about the collection! While watching his designs come down the runway I was imagining his pieces being photographed on the side of a villa in Greece overlooking the water, and another off the Amalfi Coast in Italy (it’s the creative director mindset in me). Each look in the collection made a statement or had an accessory, such as crown or body chain accenting the look. There was also a variety of colors, textures and prints (yellow & emerald green, floral prints, and mesh/iridescent) used as detailing in the gowns.

This collection was inspired by feminine decadence and used bold shapes with a softer and sweeter color palate. “It evokes the sexiness of a tight dress with the draping of an elegant gown” says Costello.

I know that these designs will be photographed on the red carpet very soon, as well as in some of my future editorial shoots! πŸ˜‰

Take a look at a few of my favorite looks from the collection below! See more of Michael Costello’s designs at Michaelcostello.com!

GEORGINE SS16 Collection

September 21, 2015

There is something to be said for a designer that takes fashion risks, yet still keeps their clothing feminine and chic. This is why the GEORGINE collection caught my eye and made me gush during New York Fashion Week. The show made me want to dig deeper into the brand and find out more about the designer.

Georgine Ratelband, a 26-year-old designer and graduate of the Instituto Europeo di Design (Milan), has a passion for travel, culture, and femininity, and divides her time between the Unites States, Europe, and Asia. Using her travels as inspiration for her SS16 collection, Georgine eclectically fused the electricity of New York, the sensuality of Paris, and the chaotic energy of Bangkok.

From the 90’s plastic chunky heels and furry fanny packs, to the detailed lace tops and backless dresses, this collection was truly a sight to behold! Most of the looks were perfectly styled with a fun item which you wouldn’t think to pair together. My favorites were an all-lace dress paired with long, fingerless vinyl gloves and a turtleneck gown with one sleeve missing paired with a multicolored, fur boa. Although some of the pairings may not normally be deemed as complimentary, I loved them together and could definitely see myself wearing just about everything in her collection!!! I love it when a collection catches my eye, but I love it even more when I discover the inspiration behind the collection, and I’m able to understand how their thought process translated into WOW!

This designer inspired me! Georgine is a year older than I am, yet she is fearlessly defying the conventional approach of how people dress through her designs. And she’s doing it quite beautifully. It makes me want to continue to defy the odds in my blogging/styling industry of fashion, and to know that age nor opinions matter when doing and creating what you feel is right.

Check out Georgine’s beautiful collection below! I highlighted a few of my favorite! πŸ™‚ Also, check out more of Georgine’s designs at www.georgine.com and @GEORGINEStudio on Instagram!
