Seed of Gratitudeย

November 26, 2015

Happy Thanksgiving Lovies!

I hope you all are having an amazing day filled with love, good food and gratitude.

I wasn’t sure if I was going to have a post this year on Thanksgiving, but last night sparked a bit of gratitude in my heart that I had to spill about! ๐Ÿ™‚

Although I wasn’t able to spend Thanksgiving Day with my family this year due to work, I went home this past weekend and celebrated with them early! In order to keep the North Carolina celebration going I spent Thanksgiving Eve in New York with a few girlfriends from my home state that are here for the holidays. As we kicked backed on the rooftop of the Refinery Hotel and laughed about life over a few glasses of wine, we began a discussion about all the things in our life that we are grateful for. It began with the usual family and amazing friends that we have in our lives, but it later began to dig into the dark places of our lives that have now been brought to an area of light because of perseverance.

The idea of living in New York City to many can seem like an invigorating lifestyle that includes nonstop hustle & bustle, beautiful skylines & parties, and a dream being made. This happens for some, but not for all. For many it is a struggle to find a decent apartment that is bigger than a matchbox and doesn’t cost over $1200, or to be a artist and stay at a job that has nothing to do with your craft and/or passion but pays the bills. At times, some may find themselves having to crash on a couch because they need time to save money. Others may find themselves contemplating if this city is even worth the fight to survive. These are all the sometime grim realities of living in New York City. However, what we realized is that during these difficult times a seed is planted inside of us. You must be determined to take care of that seed and have the patience to watch it grow into something beautiful, because many give up and don’t believe that the current elements will be able to produce anything beautiful. But it is the few who persevere and continue to water what is inside of them that can see the beautiful gift that has been forming all along and continues to grow.

Although none of us are at a place where we feel our seed is fully bloomed, it is so amazing to be able to see how all of the struggles and setbacks have placed us on our current path to greatness. It gave us a attitude of gratitude and so much to be thankful for on this beautiful Thanksgiving Day! ๐Ÿ™‚

Let’s Flyย

November 18, 2015

To all the girls thatโ€™s hurting
Let me be your mirror
Help you see a little bit clearer
The light that shines within – “Scars to Beautiful” by Alessia Cara

We all have a story….something that has brought us from a life that we may not be so proud of and/or tested every bit of our being, but it was necessary to bring us to where we are today. During that journey we may not have realized that our attitude and perspective during that period would determine how long that portion of our journey would last.

Growing up, I’ve always respected celebrities and other influential people who use their platform to help others. Oprah, in particular always stood out to me because her journey was so rough and it truly tested her power to believe in the gift that she had inside. Now, she uses that same gift to help other women and girls gain knowledge and live a life worthy of their calling.

My favorite quote from her is: “You have control over your life and it is only when you recognize that and are willing to be responsible for your life that you can truly soar…and I believe that it’s possible in our lifetime to fly if you want to. I intend to do some flying.”

I have been through my fair share of obstacles and challenges and would consider myself to be someone who is still working through a few small road-blocks in my journey. However, I have come to realize that my perspective of those road-blocks and obstacles has changed throughout my journey. I no longer see them as something that is pushing me back, but instead moving me forward through the testing of my faith. Iโ€™m also learning to change my attitude to that of a victor before and during the test rather than afterward.

During this process, if I could help someone else going through a similar journey as I to change their perspective of things, then I would be even more proud of my story for that accomplishment alone.

I may not be at the top of the blogger charts for my influence, but it won’t stop me from inspiring others on my way there. ๐Ÿ™‚

Layers of Graceย

November 11, 2015

Grace (noun): Free and unmerited favorย

Have you ever heard the saying, “Favor ain’t fair!”? It refers to a situation in which someone gets something that they may or may not deserve. Others may not understand or even feel that the person is not entitled, but because of God’s favor, they have been blessed with this entitlement regardless of whether they deserved it or not!

Lately, Iโ€™ve been taking a trip down Gratitude Lane. There have been so many situations in the past, and actually one or two recently, in which I have found myself being blessed โ€“ and I don’t quite understand why! Iโ€™m not saying that I don’t feel like I deserve to be blessed.ย  Itโ€™s about the level of the blessing that floors me!

Iโ€™m a dreamer. I make large goals, work towards those goals, and pray for God to guide me in the process. But I also know that “to whom much is given, much is required” (both physically & spiritually). Sometimes I feel I haven’t given enough of myself to either area, or at least as much as I should, in order to deserve the blessings that I have received (and even some that have been promisedโ€ฆ)ย  Yet, He blesses me anyway.

During my trip down Gratitude Lane, I stopped and asked God why?!ย  His answer was simply GRACE.ย  He assured me that He was the one who placed the desires in my heart.ย  My only job is to follow His lead in working toward that desire.

Sometimes He may lead you the full length of the journey before you get to the finish line. Other times, He just wants to see if your heart is willing to take the full journey โ€“ while all the while His intentions are to get you there in one huge leap.ย  Either way, the ending is always in your favor and for His glory!ย And victory is so sweet!

Well, bomb-diggity-dang! That’s my kind of grace! ๐Ÿ™‚

I thought about giving up, then I remembered HE was watchingย

โ€œWrite the vision and make it plain on tablets, that he may run who reads it. For the vision is yet for an appointed time; but at the end it will speak, and it will not lie. Though it tarries, wait for it; because it will surely come. It will not tarry.โ€Habakkuk 2:2-3 [NKJV]

Two years down and a lifetime to go! It is officially Chrissy Joy Style’s 2nd Anniversary! ๐Ÿ™‚

Chrissy Joy Style blog was launched on November 1, 2013, after a failed attempt at launching a blog in October of 2012 (which only lasted about 2 months). God knew exactly what He was doing when He placed the desire in my heart to start a blog in 2012. But the timing just wasn’t right. I knew that I wanted to have a fashion blog, but my motives were all wrong. I wanted to be all about fashion runways, street style, the latest trends, and most importantly, MEEE!! ๐Ÿ™‚ Which is okay for some (not knocking anyone’s blog, I actually follow a lot of blogs like this!), but that just wasn’t the plan that He had for me with my blog. So as you can imagine, He shut that down quickly. Lol However, that did not stop my desire. I began to study the Word and pray to figure out where I went wrong the first time. I also wrote out my goals at the beginning of 2013, which included trying to start the blog up again.

Nine long months went by and no blog was started. I didn’t know where to start! I knew that I wanted to revamp the blog in a new way, but I couldn’t come up with a name and I didn’t know all the technical details behind making a nice website. (My first attempt was a generic template with the WordPress domain name.) I started to question whether this dream was ever really going to be materialize because even though I had written out my vision for starting the blog at the beginning of the year, I was in the last months and NOTHING was coming together.

On October 1, 2013, everything changed. It started with a random dream that I had that included the name of the blog, the tagline for the blog, and the date: November 1, 2013. Once I started writing these impressions on paper, it was like I couldn’t stop coming up with ideas! I instantly knew that this was my moment and I needed to put all of these brainstormed ideas into action by November 1st.

At first, I thought I would hire someone to design the blog, but I did the research and figured out how to do it myself! I randomly ran into my friend, Jojo, who I used to work with in retail, and I remembered he told me he was trying to start photography. So I set up a lunch with him and asked he could be my photographer for the blog. The answer…YES! Long story short, every single thing that I needed in order to start the blog happened in that one month! *Insert praise dance*…And the rest is history!

It’s so funny when I look back on my first post (Let The Journey Begin), because I have evolved so much since then. But it’s also a sweet reminder of how God has the power to turn things around at the blink of an eye! It may seem like the end of the year is near and the goals/vision you have written for the year have not happened yet, or you don’t even have a clue how they could even begin to happen. Trust me. All God needs is your willingness, obedience, patience, and an appointed timeโ€ฆand that vision will manifest itself! It may happen in a month. It may happen in a week. Or even one day…

Just believe that it will happen and IT WILL! ๐Ÿ™‚
