NYFW Style Rundown: Part 2Β

February 25, 2016

Hey Lovies,

Part Two of my New York Fashion Week: Style Rundown is dedicated to my valentine’s day look. This look in particularly was special to me because I decided to be my own valentine this year. Sounds a little cray-cray, I know.

My goal was to focus on self-love and finding my true source of happiness rather than trying to look fab for my fashion shows that day. Even though my Mr. Right hasn’t found me yet, I wanted to give myself a head-start on appreciating the beauty that God has given me both inside and out.

I believe that when you find contentment in being single and enjoying this season of your life, you can truly take advantage of the opportunities that are meant to be experienced while single without feeling lonely. It also helps you to break away from thinking others can complete you and feeling like you have to receive attention from someone to be accepted.

This year, I decided to go for a menswear inspired look, but with my own flare added to the mix. I built the outfit around my old boyfriend-style blazer from college. I kept it simple but with an edge by adding my genie pants and black skullcap. I wanted to make sure that my outfit was fit for one of the best valentines I would ever have…..me!! πŸ™‚

NYFW 2016 Style Rundown: Part 1Β

February 21, 2016

Hey Lovies!

It’s been awhile since my last Style Diary post. I decided to take a break during the month of January to plan, organize and prepare a game plan for Chrissy Joy Style and its endeavors for this year. I have so many great goals that I have set in place, but also have timelines, and people surrounding me to keep me accountable with accomplishing these goals, which I am super grateful! πŸ™‚ I also took time in January to have some alone time with God and really focus on the purpose that He has for me. I came up with ways that I can continue to incorporate His purpose for my life into Chrissy Joy Style. πŸ™‚

I jump started the month of February with attending New York Fashion Week and viewing many of the amazing Fall/Winter 2016 collections that were featured. I selected my top five favorite shows from the season and wrote a review of what I loved most about them…check them out below if you haven’t already!

With every Fashion Week Season comes my Style Rundown of what I wore each day. Out of the five days I attended, I broke down my Rundown into three post, with each look placed in no particular order.

Check out my first two outfits below along with the inspiration behind each look!

Color PunchΒ
For this look I built my outfit around my green-mirrored sunglasses that I love, and I paired it with my comfy blue coat, fuzzy top and corduroy skirt to bring out the green in the glasses. I wrapped my printed orange scarf around my head for another pop of color. I finished the look with my favorite black thigh-high socks and monk strap shoes to add a little menswear flare!

Gone with The WindΒ

For this outfit I decided to mix a biker look with prints. To be honest, on this day I was running late for a show and put this look together at the last minute. (I wasn’t quite sure about mixing the prints but didn’t have time to go back on my decision and change.) Once I arrived at the fashion show I was stopped by numerous people to see the outfit up close and I received many compliments. After checking out my outfit in a mirror later at the venue, I realized that the look wasn’t much, but I really liked it all together. Sometimes all you need is a little compliment to re-affirm that you aren’t a fashion nightmare! Lol

J. Salinas F/W 2016Β

February 21, 2016

Jorge Salinas may have debuted his first collection this season at New York Fashion Week, but let’s just say he made his entrance with a bang! The J. Salinas Fall/Winter 2016 collection was entitled “Paracas”. The name comes from the Paracus culture which is known for extremely complex and beautiful textiles.

From mixed fabrics and layered silk to pleated skirts and alpaca leather-trimmed coats. Salinas incorporated a mix of fabrics from Europe, Peru and New York to bring his vision to life which resulted in a avant-garde wonderland of endless fabric. Every look that came down the runway was a statement in and of itself. I am a sucker for great layering and statement coats, so this collection had my full attention from beginning to end! I felt like I was watching my dream editorial pulls come down the runway, which made my mind go into work mode and got my creative juices flowing!

I am so proud of this designer for blowing it out of the water on his debut collection, and I can’t wait to see what will come next from this brand!

Vivienne Tam F/W16

February 20, 2016

Vivienne Tam is an international designer known for her culture-bridging designs that begin with her own cultural roots. This was evident in her FW16 collection that debuted on day four of New York Fashion Week in the Arc at Moynihan Station. I had the honor of attending the show and falling in love with every crystal pleated skirt and colorful suede garment that sashayed down the runway.

Tam was inspired by a timeless cultural dreamland that included an array of influences from different cultures spanning the Chinese Western frontier to Central Asia. What amazed me most about this collection was the fact that each detail of the garment had a meaning behind it’s use. From the embroideries of parasol flowers to the traditional shapes that were characterized by various cultures, and pleated skirts inspired by ancient patterns. Each detail had an ancient beginning that was brought to life and modernized when fused into Tam’s design.

My favorite look from the collection was an amazing black sequins dress that was paired with a beautiful embroidered black and white coat! My mouth literally dropped when I gazed upon the amazing workmanship of the coat as the model passed my seat on the runway! Love!

Take a look at my favorites from the collection below and let me know which piece sent you into a frenzy as well!

Georgine F/W 2016

February 19, 2016

Georgine is a designer that caught my eye during this past September’s New York Fashion Week. I can honestly say that out of all of my NYFW invites I recieved this season, I anticipated seeing her Fall/Winter 2016 collection the most!

Georgine’s inspiration for this collection came from the classic fairy tale characters that we all know and love, as well as their longtime struggle between good and evil. However, she added her own personal twist by portraying these characters as she imagine them to be in the 21st century.β€œWould Snow White wear an embroidered leather motorcycle jacket when she escaped to the woods?” and “What would Cinderella wear to a ball in this day and age” were some of the thoughts that ran through Georgine’s mind while creating this collection. You could vividly see the anwsers to these questions through her designs on the runway. Little Red Riding Hood was spotted rocking a fabulous red parka with fur details, and there’s no way you could miss Snow Whites “Grumpy” dwarf looking downtown chic!

These designs are the reason Georgine is set apart as a amazing designer to me. She has creative visions for her collections, but knows how to execute them through her garments in a way that always stay true to her design aesthetic. Her collections are cohesive and tell a beautiful story through fabulous designs!

My favorite look was the black sheer dress with writing paired with a black fur coat that had stripes of silver sequins throughout the coat! I may not be a mean or caniving person, but if today’s villains were dressed in that black and sequins fur coat, I may have take a quick walk on the dark side! Lol

Take a look at my favorites from the collection below and let me know which design caught your eye! πŸ™‚
