July 2016

When you’re told to do something that is outside of your comfort zone it can be hard. It can test your faith and make you wonder if you’re qualified to complete the task. But what’s even harder is when the mission that you’re called to complete is what you’ve been praying for, but came in a package you weren’t expecting.

Sometimes we can pray for God to move in our lives and make our dreams come true. Our hope is that he will whisk us away from our current situation and politely usher us into our calling while we ride on the back of a unicorn. But in reality it happens in a completely different way….trust me, I know!

When God told me to leave my job of three and a half years to go full-time in fashion styling and blogging you would’ve thought I would be ecstatic! I had been praying, counseling, and believing for that moment for YEARS, but the timing wasn’t right (well at least to me). At the time both were my side gig and I wasn’t at a place that I felt I was good enough to do it full-time. Plainly put, they are both my passion, but were not covering my bills and expenses. Yet, on that random Wednesday I heard God tell me clear as day to put in my two weeks notice. My palms were sweating in ways I didn’t know were possible until the moment I spoke to my boss. When I delivered the news it felt like a beautiful spring day had emerged and blossomed in that tiny office. I felt so at peace, and from that moment on things haven’t been the same.

I’ll be completely honest and say that I struggled with whether or not to write this post, because I’m still not yet in a place where I can say that I am “THERE”…..but I can definitely say that I am on my way! God has blown my mind within these past two months and has shown me that even when we think we are not ready, when God says go, just GO! He has literally placed opportunities in front of me that I had no hand in and connected me with amazing people within my industry. I literally had a moment today when I sat back and realized my passion is paying my bills! All I could do in that moment was say “Thank You Jesus!”.

Today, I challenge you to ask yourself “What is God asking of me?”. For some the answer may be to be still and have patience in his timing, and for others it may be to take a leap of faith and follow his path. Whatever the answer may be, make sure to PRAY, COUNSEL, and be OBEDIENT. It may be uncomfortable, but I promise it’s worth it ! πŸ™‚

Life is such a beautiful blessing!….So much so that we can sometimes take the everyday miracles for granted. For example, the matchbox size NYC apartment that barely houses all of your shoes, the gridlock traffic that you find yourself stuck in for one hour after getting off of work, and best of all the crying children that seem to drain all of your energy on a daily basis!

These are the things that many people complain about everyday, but are actually the biggest blessings of all! Yes, you may be stuck in gridlock traffic after work, but you’re in the car that transports you to and from your job. Your NYC apartment may be the size of a matchbox, but it’s far better than the cardboard box that many people call their homes throughout the city. Let’s not forget about those little boogers that drive you crazy at times, but who blesses your heart and want nothing more than to be loved and to give you their love!

I’ve learned that there is always a blessing found in a complaint, it’s just up to us to find it!

Today is Part 3, and the conclusion of my Summer 2016 collaboration with Lotus Boutique! My last look is very relaxed and chic, but with a pop of color in my shades! It’s the perfect look for going through life with a relaxed state of mind, and choosing to see the beauty in everything through color! Gone with the Wind

July 18, 2016

Have you ever wondered how some people are able to live their lives without a care in the world? They could be going through things that would make most people want to go crawl into a fetal position under a rock, but yet they walk with their head held high, smiling and encouraging others. Their presence is like a wave of amazing energy that draws you in and makes you want to stay close, but you can’t quite put your finger on what they have that you’re missing.

Over the past week I’ve been learning more and more about the beauty of having a persevering faith. It’s something that can give you a happiness and peace that can’t be explained. It brings you light in areas of your life that seem like you’re in a blackout, and it also gives you an assurance that the life that we live may not always be amazing but when we make the choice to believe that our best is next, life seems to get just a little more carefree!

This week is Part 2 of my Summer 2016 collaboration with Lotus Boutique! Today’s look is “Gone with the Wind” and is perfect for those beautiful summer days when you’re on vacation and want to have a dress that is fabulous for poolside slayage and a evening dinner! It is literally printed perfection that will make you feel as carefree as its free flowing fabric!

Lotus Love

July 12, 2016

There are many professions that I have wanted to have in my short lifetime. In elementary, I wanted to be a veterinarian, in high school I wanted to be Dallas Cowboy cheerleader, and during college I wanted to be a boutique owner. Although all of these desires were important to me, being a boutique owner was hands down the most important goal that I have had. During my junior year of college I was so convinced that I needed to open my own boutique that I started to intern at a popular local boutique in Charlotte named “Lotus” to learn the ins and outs of the business.

Lotus had recently opened a new store location in the Metropolitan area of Charlotte, NC, when I came on board as a intern/sales stylist. I expressed to Jackie Rodney and Effie Loukas, (the owners of Lotus) that I wanted to absorb as much information from them as possible….and absorb I did! Over the course of five months I learned marketing and selling strategies, pricing, proper selling verbiage and store event planning/execution. While I loved learning these things there was one task that seemed to trump all of the others….Styling! It was something about having a woman come into the boutique desperate, stressed, on a mission, and watching her entire mood transform into happiness and relief through a styling session. It brought me happiness to see and feel someone else’s happiness! πŸ™‚

Five months was all it took to open my eyes to my true passion beyond owning a boutique. Although interning at Lotus wasn’t my first experience with styling, it somehow changed my perspective of its beauty and helped me to realize that it was my true calling! It’s funny how God can use YOUR plan to show you HIS purpose for your life! πŸ™‚

Fast forward five years and I have made my way back to Lotus! But I am now a full-time Freelance Fashion Stylist & Blogger, and my presence is for a collaboration! I teamed up with my favorite Charlotte (and Los Gatos!) boutique to style three looks from their Summer 2016 collection! Today’s look will be Part 1 of a 3-Part series! If you drool (which I’m sure you will!) over any of the items that you see in this series, head over to and use my code : “LOTUSJOY” for 10% off your purchase! πŸ™‚
