Be the Spark!

August 30, 2017

Spark (noun): A small fiery particle thrown off from a fire; or produced by striking together two hard surfaces such as stone or metal.

It seems as though when I open up my social media, turn on the television, or go to work I hear about the horrible events going on in our world. Racism, hate, and violence are the main issues that are at the forefront of each headline. It’s enough to make me not want to turn on the news, but it also shows me that the needed change that we are praying for can start with us.

Recently at my church (The Rock Church Manhattan), we’ve been talking about the power of the number 12 and how important it is to build a network of people that can help spread the gospel of Jesus. Just as Jesus had 12 disciples that followed him and assisted in spreading the message of Christ through truth, love, with signs following, we duplicate the same thru cell groups that consist of 12 members that come together, build each other up in love, and share the gospel of Christ. Our cell groups are a metaphor for the cells that make up a human body. In forming these groups, we are creating a breeding ground for miracles, signs and wonders to happen not only in our lives, but the lives of those that we connect with and touch. This power (given through God) can be used to change situations, overturn decision that seem unchangeable, and change the situations going on in this world through unity of prayer and action.

We are all “Rocks” that come together with a purpose and message of love. If two rocks coming together can cause a spark, imagine what will happen if 12 rocks come together? Answer: Start a wildfire of love, signs and wonders that spreads all around the world! 🙂

Attention Seeker

August 7, 2017

Hey Lovies!

In life there are so many ways to show someone that you care about them and even more strategies used to get their attention! It’s amazing the amount of money, time and effort some people will put into looking good, driving a nice car, or having the best of everything in order to be viewed a particular way by someone they find attractive. Lately I’ve been taking a different approach to showing I care and in a more in-depth way.

For the past week I have been studying the things that gets God’s attention. I did this because I realized that a relationship with God is similar to a relationship between a husband and wife! When you’re married (or even in a relationship) you learn the things that makes your spouse happy, and purpose to do those things on a regular basis (happy wife, happy life!) Communication with your mate is important so that you’re aware of the things that upsets one another. You also can come to a mutual understanding of how to overcome many issues.

God does the same thing with us! He wants to make sure that our relationship with him is strong, healthy and on one accord. He accomplishes this by communicating with us when we spend time with him and even throughout our day (when we listen). Often times He gives us an intuitive feeling, followed with a sign of confirmation or a personal conversation when He’s disappointed by something we’ve said or done. We should want our relationship with him to be comparable to a “power couple”. A bond that is in-sync, uplifting, empowering, and most importantly ….unstoppable!

I DARE you to find what you can do to in your own personal life to get God’s attention and grow your relationship with him. It’s safe to say that we all want a “power couple” status somewhere in our lives, so why not start with God! 🙂

True Love

July 19, 2017

Compassion (noun): Concern for the sufferings or misfortunes of others.

In a world that has a mentality that focuses on one self with little regard to others and their needs, it is easy to find yourself becoming numb to the cares of this world. I have always considered myself a people person! I usually can connect well with others, and I love meeting new people. However, I’ve come to realize that although I have bonded easily with others in the past, I have not always shown love to others.

For the past few days I have been learning more about true love. It is selfless, kind, long-suffering, and does not envy. It puts the needs of others before itself and rejoices in the joy of others. I can best describe it as a father/child relationship in which the father wants the absolute best for their child and is happy to see them grow up and become all they have been destined to become. This is the type of love that I’m working towards having for others. Whether they’re related to me or know me personally, I’ve noticed that when I put the needs of others before my own and show them love (even when I don’t feel like it) it brings me joy. It may not always be immediate joy, but later down the line when I see that person thriving and becoming the best version of themselves and spreading that same love that I gave them to others, it brings me joy!

You may not always understand why God ask you to go above and beyond in loving the seemingly un-loveable person, or why He requires you to place the needs of someone else before your own (even when your issues are larger than theirs.). However, through my past experience in doing just this I have found that all of my issues have been solved through helping others. It’s something about dying to your flesh and helping to be the light in someone else’s life that brings about a change and allows God to move in our lives in miraculous ways. Try it!

Take this next week to focus your efforts on showing love to someone that you don’t know! Befriend that quiet co-worker who’s always by him/herself and show them the love of Christ! You’ll be surprised to find that pure happiness will make its way into your life through your efforts of true love! 🙂

27 !

July 13, 2017

Hey Lovies!

I am officially 27 years old! Today is my birthday and I am so excited to embark on a new year of endless possibilities and ventures! When I first thought about my birthday and the idea of turning 27 I figured that it was no big deal!  In my mind it was another year that should not be given as much celebration because it wasn’t anything spectacular. Year 16, 21 and 25 were my designated glory years that I decided to go all out on celebrating, but no other year would receive as much recognition…..or so I thought.

For the past week I have been fasting and decided to take some time away from social media, television, and many other things that I give a lot of attention to on a daily basis. During the week, I replaced that time with more God-time. This included reading my bible, prayer, meditation, and listening to worship music. It was a time to deepen my relationship with Christ and understand what He wants for me in this new year of life that I’m preparing to enter. It was challenging at times, because after a long day of work I really wanted to go home, curl up on the couch and watch a movie or an old episode of “Forensic Files” on YouTube (my fav!). However, while pushing past my television cravings I realized that my mindset changed a lot during the week! The areas of my life and ministry that seemed to be difficult to accomplish suddenly became easier to complete. The views I had of certain people and the situations I encountered became different and more compassionate as well!

Overall, I feel as though I see things with a new level of gratitude and appreciation! Nothing is too small or too trivial for a “Thank You Jesus” moment. Whether it’s getting a free meal at work or celebrating my 27th year of life. Every day that I wake up with breath in my lungs and good health is a reason to celebrate!

So today is a ULTRA celebration of happiness, thanksgiving and gratefulness to God for allowing me to see another year. I can’t wait to share another year of style and faith with you all through this platform, so stay tuned because this year will be the BEST YET!! 🙂

The Power of 3

June 13, 2017

Hey Lovies,

This past weekend has been one of the most amazing and inspiring weekends for me in a LONG TIME! There were so many small and large details that contributed to its overall success that I naturally had to share it with ya’ll to give you the same encouragement that it gave me! 🙂

It started with a bi-annual three-day retreat that my church (The Rock Churches) puts together every year called “The Encounter.” In summary, it is a retreat in which men and women come together to have a experience with God, address and conquer past issues/pain, and grow a closer relationship with Him. I have been going to this retreat for about four years, however this year was VERY different. The first day we learned about Jesus and the cross, including what each nail that he took meant for our healing both physically and spiritually. The second day, we learned about self-esteem (viewing yourself the way God views you), conquering forgiveness and overcoming spiritual attacks. Both of these days were equally amazing and gave me with so much guidance! However, the third day was what brought it all home and put the icing on the cake! I was able to witness one of my sisters (in Christ), Martina Calcagno, get ordained as a pastor and given leadership over our European church locations! 🙂 She moved to New York for dance and started coming to our church about three years ago. After attending the church for about six months she was determined to start/open a location in her home country of Italy! Not only did she start a church, she opened THREE LOCATIONS in Italy (all three are growing and flourishing daily!)

Martina is a young woman in her mid-twenties who’s a part of a traveling ballet dance company. She made time in her busy schedule to teach weekly bible studies to her family, and because of the continual growth the bible study became a church service. She eventually returned to her country to lead the service as she continued to start bible studies in other parts of Italy. They all yielded the same results! Her story and journey to becoming an ordained pastor is one that I have been fortunate to witness up-close and I could not be more inspired and motivated!

This weekend was an awesome lesson that no matter how busy your schedule may seem or how many excuses you may use as to why you aren’t walking in your full potential, YOU CAN DO IT! You don’t need more time, you just need to MAKE the time to do it! There are no acceptable excuses because God is with you and will always guide you into your victory! Our lives and everything that happens within them are not a surprise to God, he knows our capabilities and our weaknesses. If you trust in him he will lead you into a life that you couldn’t have imagined; a life that accomplishes goals, breaks barriers and lifts you to new heights!
