New York Fashion Week was very interesting for me this season. It started off cold and nasty but ended on a brighter and less messy note. I only attended about 2.5 days of shows (even though I originally planned to attend 5 days) due to being sick on the first day and booking a styling gig on the last three days of shows. At first I was annoyed at how everything I’d planned seemed to be getting derailed and flipped around. Many of the shows that I was most excited about seeing…I missed!
I forced myself to change my perspective on day four. This was the day that I was offered a styling gig for the remaining three days of Fashion Week, but wondered if it would be worth it to miss the rest of the week. However, God showed me that this was exactly what I had been praying for, but in a different package.
One of my goals for the year is to have multiple streams of income from various jobs (styling, blogging, contributing, commercial modeling, etc.) I wrote within my goals that I wanted to always have money coming in from one of these areas. God quickly reminded me of this when I accepted a styling job during a time that I really wanted to see my favorite designers new collections come down the runway (up close and personal.) He also reminded me that I don’t have to always be on the scene and in front of the lights to have an experience. I was not at the shows for the majority of this season, but the time I attended was memorable. I made awesome connections, caught up with old friends, and made new ones. It was the perfect example of how sometimes less is more!
This season, I only have two looks for my NYFW Style Diary, but I am in love with each look and had fun putting them together! They’re both layered looks that include pieces from Brooklyn vintage boutique, Shirley and Alice! Check them out below and let me know which one is your favorite! 🙂

Until next season! 🙂

We have finally made it my favorite show of New York Fashion Week! This particular designers collection gave me goosebumps last season and made me stand to my feet with applause during the final walk. I literally could not stop talking about how beautiful and powerful her SS17 collection was, and I’m happy to say that she has once again blown my mind with her FW17 collection. This amazing woman that is flipping the fashion industries idea of modest wear upside down is Anniesa Hasibuan.
Anniesa made her New York Fashion Week debut last September with a line of intricately designed modest wear with models adorned in hijabs. For her FW17 collection Anniesa decided to stay true to her culture by keeping her models in hijabs, but decided to celebrate the beauty and power of ALL women of various cultures. Her cast of models included immigrants, green card holders, and first and second generation Americans! She was inspired by the fact that all women are passionate, multidimensional, emotional and strong. She showed that although the world may portray modest-wear as boring, it can also be worn in a way that is chic, feminine and glamorous! From metallic silk pants, to sequin jackets and an embellished top with the letter “A”, Anniesa’s army has proven to the world that women who choose to dress modest are far from dull and oppressed!
In this day and age, unity is something that we’re learning to cherish daily. It makes me so happy to know that we as a people can unite in more ways than politics. We should learn to embrace cultures and beliefs through fashion, we can also look fabulous while doing so!

When it comes to New York Fashion Week, one designer’s show will always give you a first-hand look at what you will see on the red-carpet of the Grammy’s, Oscar’s, movie premiers, and even concert stages. Michael Costello is truly known for bringing the extra glam, curve hugging, gone with the wind fabulous pieces and (my fav) the jumpsuits!
Costello’s Fall/Winter 2017 collection channeled the “enviable vixen.” The woman who’s magnetic charisma and extravagant nature keeps her center stage with all eyes on her. She has a rock n roll vibe and could easily be described by others as the “coolest girl in the world.” Models with “Diana Ross” style afros, statement square sunglasses and brim hats embodied this persona in low-cut silk gowns and white jumpsuits with fringe along the sides. 70’s style pieces were seen sashaying down the runway in the form of bell-bottoms, strong shoulders and bell sleeve tops. They were translated through white lace jumpsuits and tops. I predict that after Beyonce snaps-back from delivering her twins she will be seen performing in one of these retro lace designs. I can also envision Tracee Ellis Ross rocking the deep-v plunge black gown with belt detailing, a red lip, statement rings and her classic curly locks! 🙂
Overall, Micheal Costello delivered a show-stopping collection that I cannot wait to see draped on every major celebrity, and throughout the NYC scene! I believe that every woman carries a little bit of a “enviable vixen” within her…some more than others. We are waiting on the right scene, setting, and style moment to bring her out. Michael Costello would be happy to know that it only takes one of his pieces to bring that side of our personality to life! 🙂

Christian Siriano is a name that is synonymous with luxury and glamour, which is why it came as no surprise that his F/W 2017 collection exuded the craftsmanship and modern elegance that we all expect Siriano to deliver!
Christian unveiled his Fall/Winter 2017 collection to a host of celebrities and television personalities on day four of New York Fashion Week. His collection was inspired by the “Beehive Sand Formations in the Valley of Fire State Park”. Models of all sizes and colors sashayed down the runway in designs with powerful silhouettes. There were strong expressive shapes that were derived from the beautiful layered effects from sand when mixed with the wind. From a hedgehog faux fur wool wrap coat, to a canyon clay bell sleeve dress, and a metallic copper off the shoulder blouse had the ability to leave me breathless. Siriano produced eye-catching and intricate detailing designs that explored every color that a sand formation could bring. I especially loved the designs shown on the plus-size models that embraced and complimented their curves. Rather than hiding them behind dark solid-colored fabric, he showcased their beauty in a see-though copper metallic turtleneck, a rose dust slip gown, and metallic stone wide leg trousers. He sent the message within his show that “People are People” through a graphic tee. This message was shown through inclusion, regardless of race, body size, or background. The world definitely needed to hear this beautiful message of unity!
Siriano also continued his “see now, buy now” collaboration with Payless shoes by featuring two pairs of shoes within his collection that were available for purchase at midnight on the day of his show!
Technology is continuing to move at the speed of light and the world is seemingly changing its views and love for others at the same rate. Christian Siriano’s F/W17 collection is proof that you can deliver a message of unity and self-love while staying within your brand image of elegance and style! 🙂

It brings me great pleasure to talk about this next brand on my list of favorite Fall/Winter 2017 collections from the season’s NYFW shows. I usually like to save her review for last, but I’ve been so gitty to talk about the collection since I saw the designs come down the runway! This designer is non-other than my fav, Georgine! 🙂
If you’ve been following my New York Fashion Week coverage for at least the past three season’s, you may already know that my love for the brand Georgine runs deep! I always find myself in awe of her collections and gushing about it days after the show has ended. This season was no exception! Designer, Georgine Ratelband brought her A-game once again in a Fall/Winter collection that was inspired by “permanent hotel dwellers, the glamorous creatures that have called the most prestigious properties home.” Think Coco Chanel’s iconic suite at “The Ritz” and Howard Hughes bungalow at “The Hotel Beverly Hills”. Georgine translated this inspiration into lavish designs that included metallics, fur, leather and lace. It gave me the vibes of an Upper East Side young woman with a Soho flair of style. She showcased looks that a woman may wear to work or a night on the town. Even the nightgown looked as though it could be effortlessly dressed up and worn from her hotel to the fabulous streets of Paris or New York. It was a beautiful representation of how the transient energy of these legends living in chic quarters fueled their creativity and made everyday feel like a permanent fabulous vacation.
Overall, I am in love with this ENTIRE collection and would definetly rock any of these pieces on any given day! Georgine continues to blow my mind with her extraordinary designs with intricate detailing. I am super anxious to see next season’s designs as I know it will again be a home-run ball that gets knocked out of the park! 🙂
